I am having trouble finding the proper SC. designation for these two Peruvian Issues. The first on the left, appears to be a provisional issue from Moquegua 10n1 but lacking the overprint, I can find the overprinted issue listed but not the unoverprinted one. The other stamp on the right I find is similar to Scott 1n10 except that it says 1880/1881,I am using the 2004 Scott classic specialized catalogue. Thanks for the help. Dean

I believe they are both Peruvian Revenues and as such will not be listed by Scott.

These fiscals are similar to your first design except that the arms are different. Although they do not appear in the general Peru listing, they do appear in the Arequipa province listing. Forbin says that they also exist overprinted CAJA FISCAL AREQUIPA in a circle.

Your second design I do not find listed at all. Hope this helps some.

I still question the right stamp. yes it is a revenue stamp, but Scott does list one under revenue stamp of Peru on page 779 0f the classic catalogue but the only one they list is identical except for the date, the one listed in Scott is 1878/79. Why would they list one revenue fiscal and not another that appears to be in the same series?

Something you may wish to check unless you already have: I can't recall in which country I noticed it, but sometimes Scott illustrates the first issues of a series and for later issues it just says something like "similar to (e.g. 1888) but inscribed (e.g. 1889)".

If I'm reading the notation in the Scott Classic correctly this revenue is listed because it was overprinted to also be valid for Postal use. Check the paragraph at the start of the provisional issue section.

1N10 says that it was overprinted "CORREO Y FISCAL" which would have made that particular fiscal stamp valid for postage. Without an overprint, I would assume yours is still fiscal/revenue.

There are certainly examples of fiscals that were postally used, whether valid or not, and examples of fiscals that were declared to be valid for postal use without overprinting. I'm betting this isn't one of them (or if it is, Scott hasn't heard of that use).

My 2d.

Scott's, generally will list revenues if they were sold to do provisional postage duty, whether or not they were overprinted.
