Hello, I'm quite new to philately and have been having a great time collecting. I'm presently fascinated with Afghanistan's postal stamps. I've however, been stumped. While looking through my stamps I found a 25p rose red stamp (Scott# 472 A167) which I quickly found in my 2022 Scott Catalogue. But I own another stamp, which is identical in almost every way, including denomination. But the color is a shade of purple, and I can find absolutely no information on it either in my catalogue (frustratingly many seem to be missing in it.) Or online. I'm hoping somebody here with a better knowledge of Afghani stamps could possibly assist me in finding out more information on this. What is it, and how many more of these variants are unlisted? I have two, one is very light in color, either that or the other one is just over saturated.

Under the listing for Scott 472-473, there is a note to also see 549-550A.
Your two stamps are perforated at a different rate. The lower stamp has very small holes, perhaps an imperforate version with privately applied perforations with a sewing machine or similar device. |

Your lower stamp, is the correct colour The top stamp has suffered possibly light damage, hence the lighter shade. (was possibly the violet shade) 1961 Come in 4 colours, purple , blue, ochre, and Green. Unwatermarked
May we see the rose red stamp please?

Thank you guys so much for the speedy help! Glad I was able to find that out, it would've driven me nuts otherwise! Always learning something new with this hobby, and I'm loving it! -Cheers!, Aiden- |

Floortrader, Just curious… what identify's this as a forgery? (Is it just the perforations or are there other things to consider)

First the o/p has a blurry picture of both stamps , second I have a AFGHAN stamp collection ,third I have many forgeries from this period of AFGHAN . You can judge it yourself if I put up a scan that shows details . |

Not disagreeing with you.. The 25 p size looks different, was just wondering if there was specific markers to look for in a ID, But I guess it's just the whole appearance Are the perforations a contributor to the forgery ID?

Floortrader, Pardon, but your posts are very vague. Will you please clarify exactly WHICH stamps are real and WHICH are forgeries? O/P #1 O/P #2 Your #1 Your #2 I cannot tell heads or tails from either of your two posts to this thread. Thank you. |

The small dots in the corners are found in some of the stamps in the sheet. |

Not trying to hijack this thread, just happens to be on a stamp I had questions about as well can I safely assume this is a forgery? (It has odd perforations, the details are poor and it has ink in the corners) |
