The second stamp's symbol or design reminds me of something Korean or Japanese.

The third looks like Queen Wilhemenia (?) of the Netherlands, but maybe that is Netherlands Indies or some colony?

Guesses, not catalogue, sorry. Going by memory which is spotty sometimes.

The second, turn it on it's side with the pointy end to the right. Indian lettering I think then. Maybe an Indian State, check tonymacg's thread about Indian States ?

Hi Donna,
The middle stamp is from the Indian State of Alwar
it needs to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise

I have never seen an example of number one,
it looks very interesting.

I am wondering if perhaps numb 1, should read "Touva"
but it seems "Tolva"
Tannou Touva was a remote area of Northern Mongolia
Cinderellas were produced there by the Russians in 1934
The currency denom seems to fit.

The Tuva stamp is SG 19 / Scott #19 of 1927.

The originals have crackly gum and the reprints have smooth gum.

It does indeed say "Touva".

Thanks Nigel.

Nice stamp Donna!
The 1927 Pictorial issue of Tannu Tuva
was designed by Mrs Olga Amosova.
Collectors rate the set high for beauty.

Thank you so much for the information. These stamps are so interesting! I am trying to sort through quite a collection of old stamps - both U.S. and worldwide. Could you please let me know what Scott's catalog to use (for a beginner). I've looked on ebay but it seems like there are catalogs for every country for every year, is there something more universal?
Thanks again!
DD

You're probably finding auction lots made by people who take a catalogue and cut it apart so they can sell individual country listings. That seems to be fairly common, I see the listings quite often.

Scott catalogues now come in a 6-volume worldwide set - the number of volumes has been steadily increasing, when I first started looking through catalogues at the library in 1975 there were only 3 volumes. If you buy them new, the list price is about $80 per volume, I think. You can often find old catalogues on ebay which aren't too expensive, though. Those are fine if you don't mind not being able to catalogue the most current stamps. Here's a listing for the 2005 set, for example.

Scott also publishes a specialized US catalogue and a "Classic" catalogue, which covers worldwide stamps issued up to 1940.
