Hello, can anyone please help me with this stamp. I've searched and can't find any information on it so any help you could offer would be much appreciated. Thanks

That appears to be a cutout from the flap of a Registered Letter envelope. The blue crayon mark fits with that.

No, but a mod will be along to move it at some point.

Hi Kas7777,

This is a postal stationery cut-out from a 1905 Registered Envelope.

The compensation schedule was changed in 1905, so the 1900 Envelope was re-issued, despite envelopes showing Edward 7th being issued 2 years prior. The Edward 7th envelope was also reissued.

Hope this info helps

Welcome to SCF. Your "stamp" is what Rod refers to as a "mutilated postal stationery fragment." Keep it in your Hong Kong collection as a "back of the book" item.

Scanned below, from ebay, is what the whole envelope looked like. Your "stamp" was trimmed from a registered envelope similar to this one.

Linus

Nice! Linus.
The late Mr. Jay Carrigan (US) would be well pleased,
it was his term, and he was one of my mentors.

I disliked the term at first, but it grew on me as time passed.
(I was previously using the generic term "cut square")

Rod

I used to call them cut squares, too, but I like your term better. Often, they are ragged in some way, such as the one in the OP with the corner ripped off. In my mind, the term comes from you, as you passed it to me.

I guess I could call you my mentor, Rod. As of this reply, I do not even have 500 posts on this forum, and you have 34,736! That is just crazy!

I learn so much just by searching and reading your old posts, as well as those of other old timers on SCF, that you are all mentors to me. I still feel like I am new to this hobby, even though I have been at it since about 1965.

Linus
