The tiny pic you posted is not good enough to be certain. There are some indications that are not in line with the registration sheet for plate 124.
The lack of the extended top frame line in any other registration sheet, however, is a very strong indication it can only be that plate.

The colour is red-brown.

I'm still satisfied that it's a plate 124.

Thanks nsk, and Bobby. Sorry for the previous small file size - I think I mistakenly sized 200 kb instead of 300. The color confirmation is good to know too. I'm going to look at more today to train my eyes. Then move on. I think I have a couple more to try.

I have another im at a loss.... I believe perf 14 and I thought Alph III, but maybe its IV ? If its Aplh IV, then only plates 50 & 51, right? Large Crown Wmk. Can anyone help on plate number ? Im at a loss because when I enlarge the Registration Sheets to compare, they seem to distorted to be able to determine any distinguishing marks. Any help appreciated... Thank you.

Hi Stamps4Life,

My best guess is a Die II, plate 25.

Second opinions always welcome!

@bobby - hello - so what do you use to compare it to? Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I cannot make out any usable details practically by using the sheets from GBPS.... Can you share any methodology? Stumped. I may have to change my Handle. Thank you

Bobby,
It looks like die 1 from here,
Bluish paper.
Hopefully this helps

Hi Stamps4Life,

Being a learner myself, the illustrations of the alphabets in the QV specialised are part of what I look at.

Mostly, I look at the position of the letters within the square, which eliminates a lot of candidates.

So, looking at your scan, the F is pretty well centered and the E is well centered vertically but is obviously centered to the right of the square.

Then I look at the rays in the top corners.

It's certainly not infallible, and like I said, I'm still getting a feel for plating.

When folks here ask, I try to provide an answer but at the same time I'm learning too!

Hi Just_fella,

I'll have another look tomorrow (time permitting), but I wasn't happy with the alphabets on the Die I stamps.

One of the best way to learn, Bobby,
sometimes we err, but the wisdom of the crowd usually triumphs.

Very true Rod.

I said pretty much the same thing to a member of the trade a few weeks ago.

If I stop making mistakes I'm in big trouble.
