A quick Google shows that Zomba, which was the capital of BCA, has a population of 100,000. However, population was only 24,000 in 1977. Would a Money Order Branch have been needed in the early 20th century in what would have been a remote outpost of the Empire?

Zomba, in the highlands, was the Governors residence
and an administrative centre.
As I read it, the PO opened there 1891, so was in existence
for 23 years, so I guess it seems possible, although exactly what significance a "Money Order Branch" had is beyond my knowledge.
It would suggest to me banking and telegraph services,
which would suit an administrative centre?

Just a wild guess on my part. I know I have seen M.O.B. somewhere before...

Zomba had registration services, so maybe money order/banking, who knows. People often sent money orders by registered mail. I know the Tuvaluan merchant seaman working overseas used to send money orders back home to their families by registerd mail in the 1980's when I was living there. They would give me the covers.

Mails from the UK and Foreign countries ar landed at the Tschinde mouth of the Zambesi.
The Port of entry for the BCA

Mails are sorted there at the "Office of Exchange"

"Chinde" Squared circle Pmk has been noted at Stamp Auction as a receivers strike.
