First, I do not know much at all about stamps, I like padlocks and appreciate those who have a passion for collecting. I was at an estate sale and bought a box of old papers and letters. On my way out, another shopper asked me if he could look at the letters, mostly 1880s to 1920s. After a few minutes he offered me $200 for these stamps.I said no.I looked around here and some other sites and it seems to me these don't meet the criteria for good stamps, for example centering. If any of you fine folks can enlighten me, I would be greatly appreciative.

Welcome!

Having your stamps on cover with a letter inside adds value straight away. Because your stamps are on cover maybe centering will not be such a negative issue.

The value of the stamps alone I have no idea, not my area.

The particular stamps on cover you show are not all that valuable by themselves but covers attract more interest many times. Subject matter, advertising, addressees and addressors, famous people, cancels/postmarks, dates, places, transit types, special markings, postage due, forwarding and many other things all add interest. If the box had a lot of covers one could easily assign a dollar a cover to come up with a willing to pay number. Maybe a lot more if you could view all of the contents. I would pay $200 for a box of 19th/early 20th century covers all day long just for the entertainment value. Researching them can be fascinating and cheaper than a tank of gas now.

It seems like a recommendation would be to take some more pictures (though scans are preferred) of the Entire cover, not just the stamps. Pick some of the ones in better shape, or the ones that you feel are older. Just add them to this thread, and you'll see further comments.

Thanks for the information, folks!
The person offered me $200 for just this one empty envelope, I guess I missed out.
Happy hunting and collecting!
