I know from bitter past experience that I am terrible at cutting hingeless and gluing them to an album. Are there companies or individuals that will print out album pages self-generated or found online and prepare the hingeless pages for you?
Something similar to Palo but more individual.

I have never heard of such a thing likely because the cost would be astronomical and demand is virtually nonexistent.

Don't really see why. Like I mentioned before, it would be a similar system to Palo albums, who make specialized hingeless albums with a similar price as the main commercial albums. Their price per page is comparable to Dave or Lighthouse.

Suggestion:

Fiskars trimming machine (Can cut mounts with stamps in the mount) (Approx $40)
Scotch Permanent double side tape ($4 a dispenser)

Ring around dealers / auction houses, ask for any part Mounts stock
(New or used)
(Your preference clear or Open topped Black)

I bought 5-7 Kilograms for $70 a few years back

A 3mm - 5mm piece of double sided tape (archival) will attach the mount
(and is moveable, without damage to the album page)

Mine have been in 5-7 years without any noticeable change thus far

Mounted 10,000 - 25,000 stamps thus far

Vertical format open topped Black with 4mm double sided (moveable) tape

That's not a bad idea. I never had much luck with gluing the mount properly but never thought of tape. Does the tape add any noticeable thickness?

None at all (Discernable)
Moveable up to 7 days, have not tried it on my earliest mounts.
I should think the mounts would be reusable even after years.

I have had 3 pieces on a large Souvenir sheet mount,
that looked wonky when adhered.
Had no problem, lifting and re siting.

Maybe Scotch removed "archival" all I see now is "photosafe"
Unless there are two types

PS: Inflation ! looks like now $6 a dispenser

Thanks for the information. I am currently overseas (stuck in Shanghai) but I am planning for my eventual return and looking for projects. I like an extremely tidy album, which is why I never had much luck mounting myself but never thought of tape. I will give that a try. Thanks again.

I've also wondered the same thing that TomSwift is asking. I don't really enjoy the process of mounting stamps. I especially don't enjoy the process of putting in a few mounts for stamps I just acquired. Cutting->Pasting->Inserting, it always takes too long. Sometimes I consider just biting the bullet and spend a few days (weeks? no idea how long it would take--obviously it depends on album size) and put mounts for every space.

It seems like something you might be able to hire a student to do for a few dollars an hour. You might have to spend a few hours training them.

For commercially produced hingeless albums, they are created by hand right? Does anybody have any insight into the method which is used and how much labor it takes? I would imagine they would precut all the mounts first for all of the spaces in the album and would be able to quickly locate exactly the right mount for the space.

Interestingly, I recently found an ancient advertisement for, I think, Errington and Martin, which, along with the usual albums and stamps, mentioned a writing-up service. All you need to do is return to Edwardian London. You'd have to take your mounts with you if you weren't content with hinges, though.

My concern here would be actually having the correct size mounts being used and having all of the proper frames on the pages. I prefer the control over the pages (I can edit as needed) and I can reprint any where mistakes are made. I have a small cutter that I use so that I can cut (virtually) all mounts to the size I need. I have cut over 35000 mounts in the past 2 years. Yes, this is hugely time consuming, but when I get on a roll, I can mount hundreds of stamps a day. I did buy a large Fiskars cutter that I used to trim some paper, but now that Rod mentioned it, I will see if I can use it to cut really large mounts that don't fit on my small cutter.

My wife is an avid quilter. On occasion, she spends more on fabric than I do on stamps that month. Why mention this? Because quilters - of necessity - have large, gridded cutting mats and rotary cutters to cut fabric from the bolts.

She gifted me one of her small 18 x 24 inch mats and a spare rotary cutter. When paired with my 15 inch steel ruler (don't try this with plastic rulers), I can easily cut even the large 264mm Scott/Prinz mounts down to any needed size.

I am not that adroit, however with black open tops
I can lay 1-10 stamps in one mount strip
slice off the top for height, then cut off each stamp vertically
Takes minutes with the FISKARS
I have used it so often, I have wiped off the marked graduations.

I stick the tiny double sided tapes to the album page first,
then lay the stamp in the box, and press lightly.

I usually do 1-3 Steiner Pages in a day.
It has to be fun, not toil.

PS I have to thank "PostmasterGS" for the double sided tape tip.

I wonder how companies like Palo handle the manufacturing process of their pages. It would require many different mount size to stock and then add to page. I cannot see the application of mounts to paper as an automated process so must be labor intensive. This means an index of every page and every mount used on the page.

I ssume they would contract with a mount maker like Prinz to cut them to desired length. I use a glue stick to attach mounts.

The nice aspects of clear mounts are they are very forgiving in appearance for cutting (although no real issue with the task) and not having the exact height mount. Black accentuates these type issues.

If you wanted a large quantity maybe you could contact Palo.

The original question was "will somebody else create a hingeless album for me". The answers quickly became the obvious "do it yourself" which does not address the question.

It does however make for some interesting contemplation about how commercial mass produced hingeless albums are manufactured.

I wager that it is not hand work given the precision placement and adhesive moistening and accompanying time required to place hundreds of mounts to create one volume.

The typical hingeless album carry's a 20-30% premium over non-hingeless which does not seemingly allow for manual labor at any piece or hourly rate that makes sense.

So how is it done?

I have done 2 complete Scott National albums, cutting/mounting clear Hawid mounts throughout. Additionally, I did Luxembourg and Ireland like that. It literally takes WEEKS to do this, many hours-long sessions. The cost of the mounts adds up too and there is some waste. If I had to guess, I'd say I spent about 75-100 hours doing my most recent Scott National. It looks amazing/professional, but it takes a ton of time to do it right. I also use Scott page protectors for each page, which helps keep stamps in place (the Hawid mounts are top opening) and also for putting certs behind the pages.

Rod222 - the tape you show is permanent. There is also a removable type. $4 at Walmart in the US.
