I think I've mentioned in previous posts that I'm not really a stamp collector (I collect Antique Postcards), however, I purchased a large lot of Antique Postcards and several stamps were included. After that, I thought it would be fun to buy a few more and now I have a rather large but eclectic collection.
For the fun of it, I wanted to see how many denominations I have so I sorted a few.... from 1/2 to One dollar and this is what I came up with.

Also, I have a few questions about a couple stamps listed and was hoping someone could help.
Here are my questions:

The cancel on the 4 cent Lincoln appears to say Enough, can someone tell me what that means?

The 10 cent Monroe has an upside down cancel, but I can't make it out, anyone know what it might be?

Finally, the 11/2 cent Harding has a punched out pattern on it, the back shows LA something (SL?) what does this mean?

Thanks to everyone for looking.

The two Harding stamps show what is known as a perfin - these have been marked in this way to prevent theft. They may have been used by a Savings and Loan in LA, hence the LA / SL?
The 10 cent Monroe has a cancel that identifies a postal sub-station.
The 4 cent Lincoln has a regular message cancel. I am sure you will get better answers shortly!

Peter

The first is a perfin for the Los Angeles - Salt Lake RR (pattern L20 in the perfin catalog)

The yellow stamp has a parcel post roller cancel likely from Brooklyn NY. I have drawn a sketch of what a more complete impression might look like with a "#" representing a device number.

The last is a partial impression of this slogan from a machine cancel, used in many cities, this one from Evanston was handy. Yours is likely from another city.:

John, you must have posted just as I replied to Peter. Thank you as well! I'm thrilled to know the Enough slogan cancel, that was a stumper. Thanks for all the info.

I don't know if you collect used postcards but often enough, the cancel can add something to the view on the picture side. Then you can be like the rest of us here asking when only one side of a postcard is shown, "Can we see the other side, please?"

hy-brasil, Yes, I agree I've had a few where the cancel adds to the picture view....I'd need to dig some to find them. In the meantime, I'll show a few of my postcard cancels below.
