Hi All,

My grandfather collected stamps, little to my knowledge. So, I have a lot of sheets and I have no idea what to do with them. I've been told to have the looked at by a professional...but I have no idea where to find anyone or where to look.

These are a couple of what I have. They are all in sheets, lots of people, science, medicine and art.

Thanks!

Postage is postage is postage. A dealer you manage to find would probably offer maybe 30-40% of face value. Add everything up and be informed of what percentage you'd be willing to take

Hi Seed,
I'm sure you're pretty disappointed and shocked to hear this. There are thousands of folks, maybe hundreds of thousands who spent money at the post office in the 40's, 50's and later who bought a sheet or plate blocks of everything that was issued, thinking it would be a little nest egg later on.

We've heard countless stories of widows who thought their late husbands left them well off with the stamps that they spent 1000s of dollars for, only to find out that they can't even get 50% of what was paid for the stamps, and that the best use for the stamps is for postage.

I would imagine that a majority of stamp collectors use these mid-late 20th century stamps for postage, knowing that they're not worth much for anything else.

Think of it this way-- the USPS printed millions of each stamp, in some cases, hundreds of millions. They're so common, that they are collectable, but not worth anything else except postage.

Hope this helps.
You don't need to speak with an expert. Some dealers will buy postage, some will not. Your local stamp club will also have members who will want to purchase postage. Let the club take a look, and if there are any sheets that do have value, they should be able to let you know.

Good Luck--

You might take some of the better looking sheets and frame them. Might be a nice way to remember your grandfather. Or you could save them and start a collection.

We've seen collectors on this website get creative and have a puzzle printed from an image of a sheet or single stamp(s).

Hope this was helpful,
Ray

I guess the USPS were rubbing their collective hands together.
The money was rolling in, without any service to accommodate.
