...and have we figured out exactly what it is? I've tried to search for it many times since you last posted it, but I have no idea if my search terms are even close. When you keep getting "zero results", and yet you would expect to get "zero results" most of the time, anyway, it doesn't exactly instill confidence... If you don't want to tell just yet, I'd understand... |

Quote: Londonbus , have you lost it ? Stampstudy, I lost it a long time ago...oh you are talking about the Stamp-sorry. No, never had a copy, have been trying and searching for months or years even. Lost it twice on ebay and have not seen it for a while. Never seen it anywhere else, cannot find any info on it and Cjd is also after one so have him to contend with as well. Life just stinks doesn't it? Except today I received the most amazing, possibly unique, cover. More on that later. I'll see if I can fish out some more swanky airmails. Londonbus1.....I think it's an essay. |

Pegasus with upright constellation : In mythology we have "Pegasus," the winged horse as depicted on some series of Uruguay, and the 1930 issue of Italy (50c.). In the Uruguayan issue an astronomical contribution is represented, for in the upper left and lower right corners of the stamps can be found the constellation of Pegasus, which is unique in that it is inverted when seen from the northern hemisphere and upright when seen from the southern. It is shown upright, as it appears in the Uruguayan heavens. "Pegasus" was the winged horse of Grecian mythology, that sprang from the blood of Medusa when the latter was slain by Perseus. As soon as it was created it flew to the abode of the gods. Here Zeus took it, harnessed it to his chariot, and drove furiously through the clouds, flashes of lightning darting out of the horses' hoofs. #SG621 |

Here are some more airmails (of sorts) from south of the border (more or less) that are attractive to me: Airmail postal tax from Ecuador Dominican Republic Libya (which has an overabundance of good looking airmails from the classic era) |

first time seen, they are beautiful Cjd. I like the story on the Ecuadorean, and the simplicity of the Dominican. (the three stripes on the right, and the cloud shape inspired by Art Deco) |

So much cool stuff on here to look at. Rod: I like the pegasus. So many other great things to see as well... Here is a set that I had not really thought of as airmail, but more as Olympics themed: Costa Rica 1960 Rome Olympics #C303-312 |

Another airmail stamp that was hiding in my collection. I don't read Japanese, so know that it is airmail only because it is numbered #C2 and I saw the same stamp in another airmail collection on this site. If there are any other Ryukyu collectors or experts around, it would be great to hear what you know or if you have any resources to share (the Wikipedia article on Ryukyu Islands is sparse)... RYUKYU #C2 Used - 1950 12y Green |

Nice stamp Gaff, first seen for me, and cat num too Very reminiscent of the "Picasso peace dove" the most widely used bird image across many nations stamps, (on 26 stamps that I have) Ryukyu Ils appears a reasonably budget concious set to collect, many sets around $3, there are Ryukyu collectors clubs if you Google. The Ryukyus may perhaps be easily triggered by the battle of Okinawa in the Pacific conflict,ww2. |

Here is an Albanian airmail from the period of Italian dominance in the 1930's. I've looked for one for awhile and was happy to get this example recently: |
