I might be a kind of an "archive collector" since my focus is on collecting duplicates. These are nicely archived in standard pergament envelopes under each AFA number and stored in boxes. Finally updated in an excel sheet, just for the overview.

But I still have my albums, where Denmark is collected in a SAFE album with preprinted pages. The other scandinavian countries are collected in stockbooks.

And the rest of the world? Well, I keep them in a shoe box, and one day.....

Welcome.
What do duplicates mean? Simply having two of each?
I'm a stockbook collector too, don't think I will ever move to printed albums.

@Rob, I have not yet made up my mind about printed albums. In some way they look more nice, but when you are in a phase as I am, where you are building up a collection there changes all the time, for me the stockbooks are better to handle. Time will show if I swich another country over to SAFE albums.

For me collecting duplicates, means collecting all of each. When I reach 100 pcs of one stamp, I bundle them.

Jyllinge, I use stockbooks for flexibility: If I find interesting or noticeable color shades, interesting cancelations, perfins - I add them all to the stockbook. In a printed album there's no place for an extra stamp copy just because you like it.

Jyllinge,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game. Wonderful you are carrying on your father's collection. You are the next steward of a family treasure you can pass on to future generations. Its value as a family heirloom wil always surpass it monetary value.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

For what reason? No judgement, it just doesn't make sense to me, so anything that helps me understand the motivation for this would be welcomed.

@classic paper, it is a retro thing for me, to do my stamps. Enjoying the time I spend from soaking to the final organizing. Every extra stamp still seems to matter, so it is more about doing and less about making sence.
