Just wondering if there were any updates or further inquisition about the 24c Banknote the APS sold on ebay shown at the end of this thread: Bill Weiss is such a legend. A humble spirit who, through logic, patience, and understanding, was even excited about the potential of what 'could be'! I enjoy reading everything he posted, so I'll start a new topic rather than continuing there with my own jabberjaw Thanks guys! Edit: Here's the corrected link! I used the "copy to clipboard" button from SCF rather than from my browser, which left the last numbers off for some reason: https://goscf.com/t/38148&whichpage=4#382500 br /

Stephen-P. Go to the thread you are trying to reference, then click on the item shown by the red arrow. Copy this link, and put it in your response to get us to the correct place. I think you accidentally posted the wrong link. |

The other suggestion, which many others also omit doing, is to "check your work" when posting a link and seeing if it goes where it should immediately after making the post. |

"Bill Weiss is such a legend. A humble spirit "
You must have known a different Bill Weiss as he was far from humble. |

Bill was strongly opinionated and did not suffer fools well. I agree with eyeonwall that Bill's confidence was not small, but I always felt he had very good intentions.
In my opinion, Bill suffered with some very difficult and challenging cognitive issues in the final few years of his life (due to his cancer) and certainly had a huge amount of stress with losing his life-long love, Addie. We supported each other during our Stage 4 cancer battles. And unlike myself, Bill had a strong desire to keep his medical issues private and asked that I not tell anyone else. I had to watch on the sidelines while Bill got into some dust ups with others during the final chapters of his life with additional context of Bill's situation that others did not have.
But Bill was always a strong advocate of knowledge sharing and worked towards helping our hobby. RIP my friend. Don |

Don- it's incredible that you two shared such a thing together... that must have been very tough. If it's worth anything, I thank God that you made it out alive and are still with us today.
There's nothing wrong with being strongly opinionated, and it's easy to conflate 'pride' with 'confidence' if we're not careful. They are two completely different animals. I've always placed you and Bill like brothers on the 'good' side of the spectrum, and am constantly humbled by both your knowledge and what you're doing here.
See? It's because of you that even rookies like me can acknowledge who he was and show respect. That's amazing.
RIP to your great friend! |

Bill was indeed an expert in some area, but offered opinions beyond those areas too. |

Just to bring the thread back on topic: Quote: Just wondering if there were any updates or further inquisition about the 24c Banknote the APS sold on eBay Have you searched the APEX certificates issued after the sale date? If not sent to APEX, the same could be done with the PF certificates issued after the sale date. [Edit: FWIW Bill W. was good to me and we got along. I am a collector and generally not considered a professional.] |

Thanks PPG. Very quick to find after your suggestion. For APEX, it was added a little over 4 months after the sale date. Seems kind of long, so I'll check in the PF database to see if it was submitted there before or after APEX. Quote: Final Opinion: United States, Scott No. 153, used, genuine, reperforated at left, not on ribbed paper as compared to accepted ribbed paper. It seems like quite an open-ended answer. Are they claiming it *is* on ribbed paper, just not in the same exact fashion as the only one certified? Did they think it's just from the dandy roll, or some external device? I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to see the discussions and overall atmosphere from the experts... |
