Hey everyone..so I have a few dif stamps Im needing help with but going to start with this one for now. Everytime I've searched it online it shows mostly everywhere that its worth anywhere from $150-600 usually(most show a couple hundred) but awhile back when I had emailed some sort of collector, just cant recall cause it was awhile back, and they didnt seem to have any interest in ones I sent photos of or mention them like they were decent ones to have so made me wonder if they actually arent worth it or just personally wasnt looking for it. I have a variety of dif ones of these and some sets of 3,4 etc. too that I can add photos of below if anyone would want to see them or give any help with them too. I just was seeing alot more then others I tried researching showing and saying they were worth that range and not much other info especially beings I tried learning more for a good 10 months on collecting stamps and still don't know much cause lost interest and too complex. Thanks and appreciate any help or info you might have!(I just added photo of back too even tho prob not needed for answering this but just incase)

1) Your stamp was issued in the period from 1954 onward in different formats. 2) Its full catalog value is the minimum, 25 cents in perfect MNH condition. Few if any people would ever pay the full 25 cents. 3) Your stamp is damaged, so the value is zero in the marketplace.
Where did you get the date 1916 and where did you see values in the hundreds of dollars? |

Hi Kacinicole. Please remember first that there are a fairly large amount of scheisters on ebay, that are trying to get folks" money. Yous stamp is a regular "workhorse" of which millions were printed and used. The catalog value is low, nowhere near 150. Not even close to one dollar. Besides, I believe the stamp is damaged ( see the back ) Sorry! Peter |

Quote: Best use would be for postage. Meaning you would receive the full value of four cents, a good value for this stamp. One would think any wise person would buy all the cheap ones and list them at the expensive price then retire after a few days on ebay, right? Now below are two ebay searches. Of course you looked at the higher priced ones, but first I will show the lower priced and much more accurate prices: Now the more expensive items. I call you attention to the $5000.00 sheet (pane) of 100 mint stamps. Even at that price, one could turn a profit if sold at the individual listed price of $5000.00 each ($5000 x 100 = $500,000.00 or Half a Million!!!!) |

Well my post above shows that the item in the OP seems to be getting played, get pumped and dumped or otherwise manipulated. And not one, NONE are listed by Jujusales. She must have missed these.... |

That $$$Lincoln parade is common occurance on German ebay. In fact, replace Lincoln with any other US "head stamp", and you see the same parade of lunacy on ebay.de. We have to live with it and the amount of idiots is, unfortunately, rapidly multiplying as there are just too many "Hey, I have the same stamp so I can sell it for $$$$, too" hopefuls. |

Is there a site that is good to help you see more of what they are and etc? I know most are people just tryin to trick ya and arent the right prices so its not like im believing them..thats why Im trying to ask so I can learn because like I mentioned when I've google searched image for it all im seeing is prices up in the hundreds for it. Im not meaning the exact stamp I posted, I know its damaged and etc just was using it to show which one I meant.. And I must have misread or saw a scam post on the year or something if I was incorrect. I have a book that has been partly filled of all sorts of stamps but when I posted it b4 it wasnt one anyone else had at the time to help me with |

I have tried putting in real effort to learn more but Im not able to invest all sorts of money to do so and if you dont know much about this stuff, trust me its hard to learn online. I dont know why every stamp collector seems to want to be so mean about any questions regarding them but its really made me hate trying even more..just cause it might make sense to them, doesnt mean its easy for others who are like me cause so many sites or scam posts say and show so many dif things..just like some of the george washington ones I have and looked up all say they are a score but they prob arent worth nothing just like everything seems to be worth in this collection.. I have been very interested in coin collecting since I was a kid and always found an interest in it so when I inherited hundreds of stamps being told by someone who truly believed there was value in it, thats all I knew. To start with what could ultimately be 1 single stamp in a large collection being of value its a nightmare and makes ur brain spin trying to learn. Then you reach out for help and people are nasty to you about it or treat you like its not complicated at all and it makes you want to use it all as a fire starter and be done with it. Im still not looking to mislead other people by mistake or lack of not knowing and just going off what a search pops up showing but I absolutely see why others do beings its what it makes you think. |

Logic and common sense plays a large part as with most things in life. If you understand that the vast, vast, vast majority of stamps are common as weeds you won't expect a windfall at every turn. First off is to identify your stamps and it is as easy as pie with sites like Stamp Smarter. Look at the design and it will lead you in the right direction and give you choices if there are any. Actually, collecting stamps is a comparatively cheap hobby when it comes to tools. Perf gauge and lighter fluid. A pair of tongs later on. In the old days you needed to buy hard cover catalogs but now so much is free on the internet (Stamp Smarter plug again). Question: When you look at ebay and see blocks of a stamp selling for 99 cents and other singles of the same stamp priced in the hundreds and thousands why do you latch onto the thousands numbers? Because you WANT the stamp to be expensive even though you know it is not. |

If you select a particular stamp, especially if you have the proper Scott Catalog number for US material (other catalog numbers for other countries) then do a sort, most expensive first and then least expensive next, if you see a great difference such as shown above, you can bet your bottom dollar that all of the high prices are a scam with the lower price much more closer to the truth.
A Scott Catalog should be available at most any local library for free. |

Also, best to look at the SOLD prices not just the listed prices. People can ask outrageous prices, but the true market value is better found with the prices that similar items have SOLD for.

Quote: Is there a site that is good to help you see more of what they are and etc? As others wrote, looking at a catalog, like Scott or Stanley Gibbons, can be your first step to finding a scam price. I've mentioned these two because they are in English. There are rare exceptions: Some collectors reported here at SCF that there are stamps with low catalog values, but impossible to find, so catalog values don't say anything about the availability of a stamp in the market. |
