At first glance, I thought the words on the back of the postcard might be a poem. They are actually the words to a hymn, called "Iesu No Ke Kahuhipa". Some of the verses on the card have been lost, but I was able to find the full lyrics online:
Iesu no ke Kahuhipa Kahuhuipa maika`i e Eia makou ka `ohana Ke hoolohe a hahai E aloha, e aloha, Alakai a hanai mai E aloha, e aloha, Alakai a hanai mai
Which, roughly translated by Google, means
Jesus is the Shepherd Good Shepherd Here we are the family To listen and follow Love, love, Guide and nurture Love, love, Guide and nurture
Please excuse me for posting this video, it is one of my favorites and comes to mind any time I even hear the word 'Hawaii'. I think this video sets nice background music reading the posts in this thread.
"IZ" Israel Kamakawiwo'ole had, in my opinion, one of the finest voices to ever bless this earth. I remarkable guy that we lost far too young.
GregAlex, A Big Thank your for taking the time to find and transcribe the hymn on the postal card. I subscribe to a website designed for museums and historical societies, where personal accounts are also accepted. I will update my entry and post a Big Mahalo/Credit to GregAlex.
