IMO, when a business is using a stamp on the first day and/or pointing the stamp out as part of an attention getting method, they are creating a contrived philatelic souvenir. While it may coincidentally demonstrate a rate, it is not "natural" postal history in a normal sense of rate/use.

Was sorting through some covers. When I saw this I thought about this recent thread.

@alub

I think as long as there is a collector to the letters, philatelistic used or postally used it is philatelly.

We all collect differently, some collect FDC, others collect postally used letters with or without stamp as part of a postalhistory collection. Multicoloured franking is usede postally often with correct franking, where you could have used 1 stamp and franked the envolope.

This is a couple of first day covers send to Sweden in 1942, opened by the Danish Censur office in Copenhagen marked Ak in Violet and Black at the letter front. I do not collect FDC, but these I keep among others from the periode.

I send FC mail all of the time with wall to wall three cent commemoratives. None of it is going to fellow collectors (at least that I know of). What will someone make of my work in the future?

I think those in the future will be doing the same thing as you, since they literally made tons of those 3 centers over 20 years. That's why people today are only paying 60-70% of face value for sheets and plate blocks of them on ebay, 60+ years later. I don't consider what you are doing being philatelic, but it certainly isn't postal history either.
