Hi
i need help, as I got stuck on this one.

it seems aata utah but that town does not seem exist.

closest is alta, utah but cant seem to find a cancellation similar

pretty sure, as this die was used 1874-1886 this is a territorrial usage, but does it make sence. was there a wells fargo route that could have caused this cover to be created? I think the train line was allready working....

and what could be the purple marking right botthem????

any help is welcome....

postalhistory.com by Jim Forte has two Alta Utah from this period on offer. On these there is only the vertical part of the L with a wrong angle left so your cover is most probably Alta with the right part filled in making it look like AATA.

For the record in this thread, here is one of the two images from Jim Fote's website offerings. The original post and Forte's cover suggest a scenario of Alta receiving a CDS misspelled as AATA, and the clerk grinding-out the right portion of the second "A" to make it less objectionable.
