Hello, I have these 3 New Zealand revenue stamps from the period where they could be used either as postage or revenue, The first two have pen cancels as well as a large oval cancellation. My assumption is that these were used for revenue purposes and not postage; is that correct? The third stamp has a circular cancellation with a visible NZ. My Barefoot catalogue says there were circular revenue cancels that were larger than the postal ones. Can anyone say for certain if the last stamp has a revenue or postal cancellation?

Thanks to all for replies!

The first two are revenue uses, as you surmised. Those large oval purple cancels are revenue use, and manuscript is almost always revenue use when it comes to Commonwealth material.

Hi,

The last stamp is listed in the SG catalogue (2021) as a postal fiscal stamp with a date range from 1931 - 1940 with the single watermark (NZ over a star).
Catalogue value for the used stamp is £4.50.

That is not a valid measure for postal usage.

Unless the postmark is sufficiently clear to confirm postal usage, fiscal usage must be assumed.
