OK, I never found an imperf of this stamp before. What the heck am I looking at here? Stamp Smarter doesn't have it, Scotts doesn't have it....

At first I thought it was just trimmed off perfs, but the right side has a line and partial stamp....so it didnt have perfs (at least in that side) Any clue would help!!! Thanks

your stamp is a straddle margin single (indicated by the small cut mark line) and if I remember correctly position 10 (top row last stamp) of the left hand pane. I will leave the question of whether or not any perfs were trimmed to others better versed, but suspect that is what occurred.. the portion of the stamp at right would be position 1 of the right pane.

From my hobbyist chair, I concur with m_and_m. I was taught to be dubious when there are uneven, 'hesitation' (stops and starts) cuts on a stamp.

Regular stamp. The user cut the perfs before putting it on the cover.

If this had perfs, the stamp complete must have been HUGE. Thank You Gentlemen!!

Indeed. This issue is known for stamps with margins like these from edge pieces. Here is one from my collection I bought as a curiosity for around $8

I agree that the is straddle margin, perfs cut off, but a bit intrigued by horizontal line going across top of stamp
this issue I believe has guide lines vertical at very top and bottom of pane, but not aware of guide line horizontal??

This is only a few years after the switch to perforated stamps and (despite the perforations) many users still cut their stamps apart with scissors.

As another example, a later grilled, Scott 94 on cover
Natural government-cut straight-edge at right and slightly wavy left edge cut by the user. Eye-catching, but it would never get a cert as a part-perf error.

if the line is very thin and light and appears to terminate in or as a dot it is probably a layout line. these can be horizontal as well as vertical and were used to guide the entries onto the plate. they are usually covered by the stamp design and being thin and light tend to wear quickly and vanish. the dots can sometimes be spotted in the corners somewhat more frequently. the early sharp printings of any given issue would show them best.
