A thread to compile in one space images of the many stamps issued in order to call attention to the danger of malaria and to encourage its eradication. Here is a United States 1962 issue:

Thanks, KGB, for starting this thread. In the far past, more than 25 years, I collected Malaria stamps and items. I don't collect this subject any more, sold all covers and postmarks but I still keep the stamps and will show several of them. To roll this thread, here is one issued in 1962 for use in the Canal Zone: |

The 150th anniversary isolation Quinine, an anti Malaria compound purified from cinchona tree, by the French chemists Pierre Joseph Pelletier (1788-1842) and Joseph Bienaimé Caventou (1795-1887), designed and engraved by Claude Haley, and issued by France on March 12, 1970: |

I've been away from the hobby for so long that I entirely forgot about the Canal Zone issues! |

Among them Cuba which issued this set of three on December 14, 1962: Malaria parasite infected erythrocytes: Anopheles albimanus mosquito, Malaria parasite vector: Cinchona plant and Quinine variants chemical formulas: |

Most of the stamps issued to publicize the anti Malaria campaign declared by the UN in 1962 show the campaign emblem, the World Health Organization logo fights the Anopheles mosquito vector and the slogan: "The world united against Malaria" ("Le Monde uni contre le Paludisme"). Few countries issued stamps depicting other designs than the emblem. From them, I think the most beautiful and attractive are the stamps of Laos, Tunisia and Morocco. Here are the stamps of Laos, issued on July 19, 1962: Lao boy and the campaign emblem Designer: Marc Leguay, Engraver: Pierre Munier: Lao girl and the campaign emblem Designer: Marc Leguay, Engraver: Jean Pheulpin: The Malaria campaign emblem Designer: Chamnane Prisayane, Engraver: Roger Fenneteaux: The stamps were issued imperforated in SS which is relatively rare and expensive: |
