Despite being raised 15 miles from the UN I never went to visit the building and grounds. Only when I got into philately and started collecting stamps did I have an interest in the UN's stamp store in New York City. Of course the UN itself has SO much to see even without taking the tour to check EVERYTHING.
I highly recommend philatelists and non-philatelists to visit the UN and its book and stamp store. The stamp store sells some great postcards and their philatelic offerings include items you won't find on their site as well as those you may see online but not for sale. One purchase I was excited about as I never knew about this facet of the UN was the sheet of stamps showing Audrey Hepburn doing a UN radio broadcast probably in the late 1950's. This souvenir sheet was originally issued in 2013. UN was celebrating World Radio Day (Feb 15th) and on the first floor you can check the old equipment they used for radio and TV shows.
Other items I got were the 2019 Covid-19 souvenir sheet along with a few other souvenir sheets, postcards and envelope of CTO stamps no longer available as singles or sheets MNH at the store or online.
The UN is is not far from Bryant Park and farther away Times Square and to the north Central Park and Bloomingdales. The Un overlooks the East River and some lovely parks over in Queens that are worth a visit too.
And if you are planning to visit as part of a trip to NYC, feel free to contact me if you want some pointers.
Question for members outside the US - what was your experience like visiting the Geneva and Vienna stamp stores and UN offices?
