I've inherited a couple of copies of the Lincoln Stamp Album, both fairly well populated with old stamps, revenues and labels. One is dated 1893 and has a broken spine and quite a few pages of removals, I believe the second is the "do-over" album where they were remounted along with more additions.

The collector was a lady in my family, I believe an aunt of my grandfather (he was born in 1913) who died without children, so handed her stamps to my grandfather when he was little. They've basically been sitting on shelves ever since.

I guess I just wanted to know if I was sitting on something that's interesting to the philatelic world? They're all very old, and I think there's pretty solid evidence she was buying to collect, as I found a postcard with the logo of Errington and Martins stamp importers, and I can see things like the 1897 diamond jubilee labels. Condition looks to vary a lot. Most are hinged, with a few floaters.

Anyway, here are a few examples of the better populated pages.

Hello. I don't see anything startling, but Lincoln albums always go well on UK ebay. "Usual mixed condition" is how stamps in albums from the period are often described in sales!

Among the British stamps are no great rarities. It is difficult to state much about the quality from the picture but there are some issues. The colours look quite good on most. I have seen similar posts where the stamps, primarily, were the very common stamps with faded colours. The British pages have some variety. There are some fiscal and (heavy) parcel cancellations and cut-outs. They are not very valuable but the British ones could make you one or (on a good day) two tenners on ebay.

If you're going to sell, best not to remove stamps, though. Take some representative pictures (including China, if there's a full page) and sell as is.

Thanks for the replies guys. I should have stated in my first post, It's not really my intention to sell these. My grandfather was into philately himself - most likely inspired by owning these albums - so would have probably noticed if there were any magenta reds or inverted jennys.

The more I look at them, the less I want to sell them. I have several envelopes of unmounted stamps and some empty stockbooks which I'm going to combine together. I post more pictures later, but I think I'm more likely going to be asking for guidance on preserving this collection, rather than getting rid of it.

Good. It's survived for over a hundred years, so just keep it in reasonable environmental conditions - i.e. avoiding damp and humidity. Best not to add to the albums unless the further stamps are in period. Enjoy!

I like the look of the Lincoln album, we don't see too many of these in the states. I like how the color of the stamps jump out of the page.
