Hi there, together with an extremely extensive Olympic collection, my grandfather also left me with a book filled with Deutsche Reich Stamps from 1872 and forward. I was curious to hear your take on the rarity of these, and I am especially curious to hear if there is anything I should be looking for. Before he fell ill, he always mentioned a treasure he had hidden in his house :) (I think it could be a specific stamp).
Nice comprehensive start to a German Empire collection. Nothing particularly valuable; condition is somewhat mixed. Kudos to keeping the Germania Reichspost issues properly separated from the Germania Deutsches Reich issues. The 25 Pfennige stamp with the Viernheim postmark (3rd page) is particularly attractive.
If the pencil notations below each stamp are supposed to be valuations then they are more aspirational than realistic.
I think the values may be in German marks from the Michel catalog, but there are about double what that catalog has.
The 10g gray used is worth at lot - $2500 , that might be what he was referring too, but unfortunately it has a fiscal pen cancel not a postal cancel. That means it no where near that amount.
That would be a starting point. You can always go down if no-one bites. In general, there is a lot of German material on the market, so prices aren't strong.
