I tried to find the Scott Catalogue numbers for these old stamps, but I couldn't.
Please help. I'm attaching pictures of both sides.
Thank you

Thank you for responding. I looked at the US Specialized Scott Catalogue also at Stampsmarter and other places but it is confusing and didn't help.

Nobody is going to be able to provide you with catalogue numbers based on the photos you attached. To identify these older US stamps you need to take some time and look at them 1 by 1 and narrow it down based on the information provided in the referenced catalogue or website. Yes it can be confusing, but usually through a detailed step by step analysis of what is described you can narrow it down to 1 or 2 catalogue possibilities for each stamp pictured.

Thank you for your advise. Yes, I think that's the only way.

98% chance these are 65, 63, 24, and 88. The last one could be a 94 instead of an 88, it was hard to count the number of grill points in the photo.

If you have reason to believe these are something else, then yes, the only way is to take the time to sit down with a good catalog or web site and a magnifying glass and enjoy the fun of being a philatelist.

You registered here nearly 6 years ago, so you might not be surprised that someone would suggest there are two ways.

Responders will teach you to fish ... or to give you a fish. By teaching, the responses will try to guide through a self-learning process which will increase the ability to problem-solve the next mystery stamp. The gift of an answer tends not to do that as well. You have now received answers based on both of those general philosophies. I regularly do both, depending on the item, etc.

I agree with ZebraMan's anaylsis and it is a good jumping-off point to use in reexamining your stamps to see if you agree disagree or have follow-up discussion to clarify any uncertain points. Some grills can be very faint, so it is possible to miss them in a scan. Good luck!

Excellent reply John Becker.

nvpg, What folks are trying to say here is do some more research. I'm totally throwing Scott numbers in to the wind here, but a post something like this (as an example) will likely get a better response: I know it is not a #1 because the perfs are not correct, but could be a number 2 because the perfs do match what is listed but the grill is hard to determine.

Think you will also find that answer might be obvious once you do said research and have the right tools to do so. Ask away if you don't know what those tools are, always a valid question.

The gist of this is; think you will find people more than happy to help if you've made a valid attempt to help yourself first; but many folks here have also spent years with a nose in their catalogs and so forth and like to help people who take a real interest but are also tired of just being a reference book themselves.

Hope that didn't sound like a grumpy old man! :-)
