Yugoslavia was a predominant issuer of Postal Tax stamps during the past 75 years or so.
Postal Tax stamps were obligatory surtax stamps that were required during a certain period (for these Yugoslav issues, it was a week long period, usually between late Sept. and early Nov.) The additional "tax" was used to generate funds for various charitable organizations (for these Yugoslav issues, the funding was originally for the International Red Cross, and later, an additional issue was created for various Child Welfare programs).
Not only did Yugoslavia issue the Postal Tax (listed in SCOTT as RA issues) stamps, they also issued Postal Tax Due (listed in SCOTT as RAJ issues) stamps, for mail that was posted during the obligatory week which did not have the surtax stamps already attached.
I have almost all issues of these stamps, and hope to eventually get them all scanned, and uploaded into a gallery for viewing. For now, I offer a scan of the first issue, from 1933, including both the Postal Tax and Postal Tax Due issue. (the Postal Tax Due issues can be distinguished by the addition of the word "Porto")
