Hi All,

I'm looking for some guidance on how to detect forged "Berlin" overprints on Germany "9N" issues. A search on our forum came up empty handed. Does anyone know of a website that details what to look for? I've attached a pic of a few I have - some overprints appear different than others so I suspect forgeries. Thanks!

If they aren't signed on back by an expert, good luck

Not my area of expertise, but looking at the GPS Forgery Manual's samples of these, I'd guess that all of yours are forgeries. The genuine overprints should have straight, thin lines with crisp edges. Heavy overprints are typically forgeries.

Thanks for the reply. A little further digging on our site I did find:

I guess best advice is to assume forgeries unless certified. Funny thing is, these are fairly cheap stamps but I guess someone finds it worth their time and effort. Forged used ones not so cheap.

NSK has given you an excellent starting point. After reading that you can get more detail here (same website):

Your first stamp looks reasonably good but would need to study it more. The other 5 are definitely forgeries.
