This is Ireland 1978 3p Postage Due, Hib PD 22, SG J22. It is position 1/1 on the sheet.

There are two flaws on the stamp. The first is a mark under the word "trí" and the second is a broken "p" in "pingne".

I don't have a recent Ireland catalogue so I would be grateful if someone could confirm if the are catalogued constant flaws.

Thank you.

Neither is listed by Hibernian (2020). The three listed varieties are
- break in frame-line SW,
- chipped corner SW, and
- frame-break SW.

Could it be you meant broken 'n' and not 'p'?

My apologies for the typo. It is indeed a broken "n" and not "p".

Interestingly, I have just found a pair of the same stamp on a dealer's site where the top stamp has the same two flaws.
Surely such obvious flaws should have been noticed before now as it is not unique.?

If it is a transient flaw it will not be listed (if there ever will be a new Hibernian). Another reason might be the position or source of the error had not been determined.

You might contact Roy Hamilton-Bowen at the Hibernian News website to see if he's aware of the flaw. If you scroll down to the bottom of his homepage,, there's a contact form
