So these came to me in an older album as Type of 1917-8, 1921-25.

Sc 2274, Dull Red for 1/c˘
Sc 2272, Carmine Rose for 30˘
Sc 2273, Carmine Rose for 50˘.
They are all perf 11, no watermark - best I can tell. Problem is the 30˘ & 50˘ are definately different colors.

I know colors are hard by scan - but are the 1/2˘ & 50˘ same color and 30˘ definitely different?

Im thinking the 1/2˘ is J68 dull red - correct? What then are the 30˘ and 50˘? Sc J66 and Sc J76??

According to my Scott catalogue, there are two or three different shades for most of the denominations. Not sure where your numbers come from, but by my Scott these should be J68 (0.5 cent), J66a (30 cent deep claret) & J67 (carmine rose) or J67a (rose red). I won't judge which shade of red the 50-cent is. The 3 shades are carmine rose, rose red & deep claret. Not all denominations have all 3 shades. The half-cent has only one listed color ... dull red. It is a 1925 issue whereas the others are 1917 issues.

eyeonwall: Thanks for the info. I now recall having run into some of the old Scott numbers several years ago where air mails and general issues were intermingled. Makes sense now.

JL - 2274 etc are very old Scott numbers before they initiated the prefix letters for various categories.
