I want to be totally honest here & hope I don't offend anyone. I inherited a bunch of stamps from my Mom 30 years ago. I finally spent a week researching as best as I could their value, which is not much. I'm not really into collecting & would like to sell them locally. But I have one that I cannot find because it is Asian. I have uploaded it here, hoping that someone could give me basic info about it. I don't want to scam or insult anyone. I just want to sell these stamps to someone who would enjoy them, probably a beginner. The total without the stamp I can't identify came to less than $350, so I would sell for less than 50%. I am not trying to sell here. I just would like someone to steer me in the right direction.

Either the upload did not go as it should, or you forgot to post the uploaded image, or you included a link that does not work. |

Posting a variety of pictures here will help to guide in the right direction. Your profile says you are in Cincinnati, so you might reach out to Randy Scholl Stamp Company (Anderson Township) https://www.randyschollstampcompany.comYou are looking to sell for 50% of what? Original purchase price? Catalog value? Face value? Depending on what you have, that might be a lot to expect. Fancy albums of First Day Covers that cost the original buyer a few dollars each on subscription are now hard to sell for 25 cents a piece. Other types of things have held their value better. Basically, |

Linda33, The true value of your stamps lies in the fact your mother enjoyed collecting them. Please consider keeping them to pass on to your kids, etc. Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ |

If you added up a bunch of catalog values and came to $350, you might be able to get $35 for the whole thing, if shipping doesn't cost too much. Or you might have something that no one wants at any price.
I'm sorry to tell you this. |

Possibly. Or, if it is $350 in face value of full sheets of postage 25c and up, then it could be worth $175-$200 to someone. Totally depends on what the material is. |

The lower the face values of the stamps are, the less interest there would be. This is because of the number of stamps it would take to make up the rate needed for 1 letter. Can you image what a pain it would be to need 25 3 cent stamps to make up the new USPS first class rate? |

That's right, 25 3-cent stamps would be a pain, but three 25-cent stamps is quite a convenient combination to make up 73 cents, and I'm pretty sure there is a market for such sheets at 50% face or higher. That said I've seen some insane prices for ordinary 3-cent plate blocks on ebay and HipStamp recently. Individual blocks selling for $1.00 to $1.50 each, or a group of 50 for $17.99 plus $4 shipping (that's $6.00 face for $22) and ebay says "170 sold" on that listing. |

OP asked a question about an Asian stamp but never said what other stamps she had identified. How did we get to 3c plate blocks? |

Just speculating on a range of options that could be in this mystery collection, and the percentage of catalog value that different types of items could obtain. For the record, the original poster did state in their profile that they had a lot of blocks, but did not specify the denomination nor whether they were plate blocks. "Just looking to sell stamps inherited from my Mom 30 years ago. There are a number of blocks, etc, but this is not a collection." Still waiting for details, and a picture of that Asian stamp, to see if it is a Chinese Monkey, or junk (no pun intended). |

Hi! I'm just now getting back to all of you for your replies & trying to,help me. Thank you! Specifically, Zebraman & Hoosier Boy. I should explain a little more. These are generally one, two, three cent stamps that are 4 to a block. I have some foreign stamps, a couple of Archduke Ferdinand that are worth like $50. My mother did not collect these stamps. I was shocked when I found them. They are in old cellophane type of small envelopes. I looked them up through a stamp price app online, which sent me to ebay for price research. I have no intention of keeping them. My nieces are not interested & no children of my own. Since they are mostly of low denomination, I can't really use them as postage as they would take up the whole envelope (somebody at the post Office suggested that). I thought I would see if someone of a younger age that is starting to collect stamps would be interested. I did try to up,lad a stamp & it just didn't work. I figured that knowledgeable people here might have answers, whereas I would have no clue. Again, I would like to thank everyone for your kind replies. I will try the local philately org. I hope no one feels that Imhave wasted too much of their time. |
