A flat bed scanner would be best. You may also want to scan the back. My first impression is that you have a nice example. Can't wait to see the next set of pictures. |

These have been extensively forged, so a high quality scan is essential. What can you tell us about its provenance? |

Thank you. I get help to scan it tomorrow evening. Here what I can tell you. My brother had a small mostly used stamp collection. He did have a unused Lincoln stamp and queen Elizabeth as well as a used ceres 2 cent franc stamp. This one was in an a cellophane looking envelope. This is what I looked at so far on the stamp. It has dots all across the neck. The eyebrow does not touch the edge. The pearls touch the line but I need a way to count them. There is some gum on back of stamp about half way down . Concerns are there is a small amount of red ink on the left lower edge of the stamp. The paper feels right like the other ceres stamp. It either real or very good forgery. Thank you |

There are Lincoln and Elizabeth stamps worth hundreds of dollars, but many more are worth pennies. We would need scans to determine. |

Not impossible, but it would be very unusual to find an expensive stamp in a basic, general collection - and to find that stamp not treated with especial care. Look forward to seeing the scan. |

I have done some more research and it appears this was a stamp he got from Kenmore stamps collecting. The question I now have is it a forgery or was it some type of promotional lithograph. Reached out to them but no answer. .I now have a poor scan that I'm getting help posting. This was obtained I believe in the eighties. Thank you |

Jill - the fact that he obtained it from a general stamp dealer (I assume that's what Kenmore is), rather than an auction house, and that he didn't do anything in particular with it suggests a reproduction of some sort. This has always been an expensive stamp - the catalogue price is around €20,000 for the cheapest shade. I'd like to see the scan when you master it, though! |
