Hi,
I am basically a newbie when it comes to collecting first issue revenues, so I'm looking for some very basic guidance here. I know that the first issue imperforates are often difficult to identify with confidence, and often an understanding of the paper and timeframe of use are of assistance in id'ing them. I still need to spend some time getting to where I can recognize the paper properly.

That said, here is an item that I have a question about -

It looks to me as though maybe it was perforated at the top and bottom, but possibly trimmed away? If so would this be a part-perforated item, or is this some other form of separation at top and bottom? or is it likely just a legitimate imperforate?

I'm just looking to learn what things to look out for here.
It appears to have a pen cancel 1867? - not sure which may have been lightened.

I'm perfectly fine regardless of what this winds up being as I'm viewing this as a learning exercise for me. Thanks in advance.

Looks like an DEC 1862 date, so that certainly qualifies for imperf. It does look quite legit to me, maybe with a faded or lightened cancel, but the margins and ink shade look fine. The cancel is from Simon DeVisser, he was a photographer. Mind you that I am not any kind of expert, but I do focus on U.S. Revenues.

Edit... The top margin looks like it was torn across a straight edge, that will give the rough appearance.

Thanks,

This is a genuine imperf strip of three, with a Simon DeVisser cancel.

I agree with what has been said about both the cancel and margin. Nice strip.

This item was lot #527 in the Kewriga sale at GASS. It sold for about 2x Scott when all was said and done. It was on my watch list in the event it should go cheaply, but it did not.

A New York merchant, actually.

Yes, I bought it from Kewriga at the APS sale.

I'm slowly dipping my feet into first issue revenues.

Thanks for the information everyone.

Very nice strip of 3. I picked up a pair not too long ago for about 20% of catalog.
