I tried to take the best pics under magnification.. from what I have checked off by process of elimination and the help from stampsmarter.org identification tool I kinda just need a more educated opinion please.

Also so the packs of stamps with twine you see in the bottom of the sorting pics, these came from an old man who passed away, and I had purchased then through the estate sale company for literally dirt cheap. If I remember correct I had to go pick them up in San Jose, Ca, about 40 minutes from me. Its was evident he had been collecting for many many years, and had TONS of tied little packs of all the "Washington-Franklin" issues, in quantities of 100 per pack. I ended up getting all the tied packs (which was 30 or so and have about 12 tied packs left to separate). Seemingly, it was if they had been tied like this for YEEEEARS because when I started untying and tried separating, they were all stuck in a HARD chunk. So I began to soak in lukewarm water for about 2 minutes total (which seems to be the perfect amount of time, and then delicately lay them face down on these little racks I made until dry, I have not experienced anything negative with this process but PLEASE let me know if this isn't the correct way.

You purchased "bundleware" groups of 100 stamps assembled in a bundle, normally using thread. A light soak usually does not hurt old US stamps that are used. laying them flat to dry is what to do, be it on the counter, in a drying book or between paper towels with a book on top,

I'll let other discuss the type question for now.

so if perf 11x10 it is Scott 540. if perf 11 on all sides Scott 546 TYIII. Scott 546 is a great find! Then you also have 4 coils TyIII but easily recognizable by the two parallel straight edges.

The horizontal & vertical perf gauges appear to be different ... hence the 540 perf 11x10.

I just want to say thank you for this topic/post/replies:

I am in a similar situation and am planning to dedicate a portion of my upcoming weekend to confirm types as well. That said, I am likely to have more questions come Saturday evening but appreciate this post and share.

Happy Stamping!
