For those of you interested in old philatelic eBooks, there are plenty of sites on the Web where books out of copywrite (~1910 and earlier) can be downloaded in pdf format.

First, go to Google.com and select books under "more". In the advanced search, select full view and do searches on "stamps", "postage", mail", "philately", etc. and you will find lots of great books including the 1899 Boston Revenue book, Crocker's Hawaiian Numerals, Tiffany's and Luff's books on US Stamps, Scott catalogs from 1903, 1905, 1916, 1921 and 1925, Mekeel's Weekly Stamp News for entire years of 1913, 1914, 1915, and 1919 as well as old stamp journals dating back to the 1870's.

The offerings may differ by location. I found all these books here in the US.

I'll share other sites in another post if there is any interest.

Are you joking?

All those marvelous philatelists, of times gone by,
all awaiting a voice, across the years.

There can never be enough literature.

I've just been looking around scribd.com and there are some decent resources there.
There is a great series of articles on Argentinian releases from Antonio Rubiera.

I recommend Fred J. Melville's "The Mystery Of The Shilling Green" as mentioned above to anyone. A great account of a massive fraud.

This is an excellent reference thread!

I downloaded to my Kindle the e-book, "What Philately Teaches", which is a lecture delivered by John N. Luff on February 24, 1899.

It's amazing how relevant the topics in his lecture are to today's collector!

Thoroughly enjoying it.

Yirmeyahu,

Thanks for your post on the Kindle version of "what philately teaches." After reading your post I went ahead and downloaded it to my Kindle as well.

Cheers!

For those interested in early U.S. revenues, the 425-page "Boston Book" published in 1899 is an indispensible reference:
