The 1 sh GB Scott 138 comes in a few different colours, but does the Levant overprint?

The left stamp is the standard colour, mint. The right stamp is one of the variant colours, used.

Any thoughts welcome!

The blue-green ink is "fugitive" and has changed colour when the stamp was soaked in water.

I would say one is a scarlet and the other a carmine one.

The 1909 issue was an overprint on De La Rue's dull green and carmine printing on chalk-surfaced paper.
The 1913 issue was an overprint on the Somerset House green and scarlet printing.

You appear to have one of each.

Note: no blue-green ink used.

Thanks NSK! That's what I thought but was not sure. Good to know about the blue-green ink!

Thank you NSK for pointing out the two printings and the official description of their colours. I apologise to you and WilderScot for not checking the catalogue before posting.

My only difficulty with your suggestion that WilderScot has one stamp of each version is that the "green" stamp has a 1909 postmark, so cannot be the 1913 issue.

I see one without a cancel and one with a 1909 cancel. This is the one I think is the dull green with carmine.

I should check my own DLRs. The fugitive nature of the Edward VII issues is nowhere near that of the Victorian issues. Also, the dull green can be very dull. But I do think that the dull green has faded.

I tend to take the Somerset House greens for dull greens, but they are that type of green.
