The images below are on a box for Swift Knight Fine Cigars.

The stamp has been cut to open the box.

I have never purposely collected stamps of this type. I have not checked and cataloged the revenue stamps that I inherited.

I not even know how to remove this stamp from the box or if it would be worth the trouble to try.

Any thoughts?

Listed in the Springer catalogs. Series 123 was 1953, class C related to the price of the cigars. I do not have the specific info about that at hand right now; perhaps Ron Lesher or someone else has it available. You could soak it off, but it probably is best left alone.

As a side note, Mystic lists this a Cass C 12 as #TC2442a, but I do not seem to have these in my Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps & Covers.

I had no idea that this existed.... So I poked around. I see that someone asked about this back in 2011 with no response

Do not see an easy way to find copies or the material :-(

Thanks for pointing me to this though.

Hi ohio-andy. I love these stamps, I also collect cigar, cigarette, and snuff stamps, as well as wine, beer, and match n' medicine stamps. I have two cigar boxes at home with revenue stamps still attached to them. I just leave the revenue stamps on the cigar box and display the entire box in my curio cabinet...they display really well.

I also try to collect the above stamps fully intact unused, but a lot of times I find them used (not attached to any box or bottle) but torn in half or mutilated.

I myself would not attempt to take the stamp off the box as you will probably have to destroy the entire cigar box to soak the stamp off but its entirely up to you how you want to proceed.

Thanks for showing us the photo of your stamp!

I think it would be tricky to get it off. I don't think that soaking would do it easily without some work. I will leave it on as you suggest!

I will leave it on. I think that I might also have some metal cigar boxes with stamps on them as well. So much to sort through.

That is a very nice link. Some excellent examples.

I will leave the stamp on the box.

They are not difficult to find, like all stamps it just takes money and the right dealer. Go to Eric Jackson's website and you will find a lot of them.
