I have seen a few of these, three I think, this being the latest one to change hands today on ebay (7 bidders and 33 bids). As pointed out below, the seller had the Scoot Number wrong in the listing title.

The back is blank and unsealed (to qualify as 3rd Class).

Are there any specialists out there with a count? Or if you one own one, say so and we can track the number. I will start as I have happened to have two.

Edit to add: Are there other FDCs of J69 not created by him?

The half cent postage due on that cover is J68. This is a J69.

Right your are and I have corrected the trusting blunder. That is what happens when I trust a listing and do not check Scott. I knew the 4-15-1925 date for the FD but did not remember the Scott #. That is why you are the postagedueguy. It is also way I know that 4-15-1925 was the first day 1 cent per ounce up to and including 4 ounces ended the day before as a parcel post rate.

Also this explains why when I searched "J69" the J68 FDC whch has cycled on ebay for years did not come up. With the correct number t comes up and has been added here.

Edit: The above certificate slightly cropped to allow image to comply with 300 size limit.

So we are up to three examples show here.

Edited for a missing "a" in a word.

I have worked on a census of J68 FDCs for several years, which I have yet to publish online. There are several discrete types, as far as the towns where canceled and the postage stamps/stationery used.

I was an underbidder on this one, but well below its final realization, as I already have several examples.

This thread spurred me to get the information into at least some semblance of order.

My designation of types is arbitrary, determined by what I believe to be differentiations between the types of covers.

  • Type I. 1c Franklin, canceled in Philadelphia (all addressed to P. H. Ward)

  • Type II. 1c Lexington-Concord, canceled in Philadelphia (addressed to P.H. Ward)

  • Type III. 1c Stationery, canceled in Rahweh, NJ (all addressed to Joseph Skarda)

  • Type IV. Other (basically one-offs that don't fit into any of the above, could become more discrete types if more examples are found)

If anyone has examples (or knows of examples) beyond those shown below, I would appreciate that information, as well as any images to add to the census.

P.S. I know I'm missing a few examples from various auction archives; it's been a few years since I last scoured them.

Wow, just wow. Sometimes you post something and there is little or no response (insert cricket joke here or go see: https://goscf.com/t/89898 ) Then there are times like this were the response is beyond anything expected.

Now to you revenuecollector, . You have a great short article worthy of publication in the USSS' ( https://www.usstamps.org/ ) The U.S. Specialist. Great work and thank you for sharing. This thread, thanks to you goes beyond anything I had hoped to see.
