I don't collect Revenue stamps, but I would like to know if I should label it as hand stamped or a printed cancellation. It is clearly not pen and ink canceled and while it has some light smudges, I don't see evidence of it being handstamped. The front image shows the light partial imprint of an uninked cancelation die, while the back image, tilted to 30 or so degrees, shows two such uninked die impressions.

Likely an embossed cancellation, or possibly a cut cancel. Here are a couple of examples of fancier embossed cancellations from Dan's great site revenue-collector.com

And a basic cut cancel.

Thanks for the info, ZebraMan! I'll go with the cut cancel. That isn't mentioned in the Scott introduction to Revenue stamps. Would that fall under printed cancellations?

No, it's just a cut cancel.

Thanks rev.

papa, while not named "cut cancel", the intro in Scott does mention "Herringbone, punched, or other types of cancellation which break the surface of the paper adversely affect prices."
