Many, many, many WF stamps are fakes. I'll wait for the experts to chime in, but it is very possible these are just nicely trimmed stamps made to look like coil stamps.

Left one is fake for sure (trimmed perfs top and bottom), and the right one is probably fake (trimmed perfs at right).

I was given excellent advice years ago: "Never buy a perf 12 W/F coil without a certificate".

There are far too many fakes. That's why I only collect them as already certified joint (or line) pairs. I've had enough of my own pairs come back from PSE as fakes. In addition to deliberate fakes, those single line watermarks can almost completely miss a single stamp on the sheet. Much easier to see with multiples.

I have been told by multiple experts that 90% of all perf 12 coils are fakes.

Besides, there were no perf 12 coils of the "1 cent" or "2 cents" Washington designs, only the earlier "One Cent" Franklin and "Two Cents" Washington designs..
Fake fake fake, and not even mimicking an actual stamp. You are correct to have not found them in Scott.

These are trimmed Scott #405s. The only coils for this one cent design were perf. 8.5 and perf. 10.

Thank you all for the valuable information. I acquired them more than 40 years ago when I collected by the utter appearance (depiction, 4-side perf or coil). As I did not have much money, I'll have paid cents rather than a dollar for them. But now recommencing I am looking closer. Learning tons from this forum

"These are trimmed Scott #405s. The only coils for this one cent design were perf. 8.5 and perf. 10."

Ya'll didn't yell enough. These are beyond "fakes", they are fantasies. To original poster, always double-check what catalog DESIGN one is working with (here, "A140", shown in Scott catalog above Scott #405). Then measure perforation(s). As someone finally tried to post,
... These are trimmed Scott #405s. The only coils for this "1 cent" design were perf. 8.5 and perf. 10... and the only design with "perf 12" was A138 "one cent", not even showing Washington, but Franklin!
