If you intend to sell, and other than auction, may I express my interest.
They appear to be Indian Telegraph stamps, they are not listed in J Barefoot Ltd catalogue, and not discussed in the "scope of interest covered" therein.
A specialist catalogue appears to be the bible:
Indian Telegraphs, 1851 - 1914 Indian Telegraphs, 1851-1914 by Ilyas Patel and Dhananjay Desai A comprehensive and well researched and organized book, in English covering the history, forms, rates, stamps, receipts, marks and cancellations along with money orders, etc. 100 illustrations & 63 full color illustrations of the stamps. Edition of 450 copies, a good work and well produced for one from India but it is lacking in binding quality. Our copies were sent in bulk and are in excellent shape considering, limited stock, over half are already sold. 1995, 280 pages, cloth, published at $120 + postage, $130.00
Hope this assists.

Rod- Isn't the last from Tonk? David- Quote: If you intend to sell, and other than auction, may I express my interest.
And if you intend to sell at auction, may I express my interest... More seriously, I don't know why these are trimmed, but I see them trimmed all the time. That is why I haven't sought them out...if I knew why they were trimmed, I might be more inclined to seek them out. (I tend to stay away from punch cancels on revenues for the same reason...irrational, I know.) [edit: By Tonk, I mean a Tonk court revenue...maybe?] |

Collin, yep from Tonk, but what is it? The Prince of Primitives suggested "It looks like a stamped paper from Tonk" back in 2008, but I have not been able to learn anything further. I may have the Muaritius Magenta equivalent of Tonk here I need someone who reads Urdu |

I need someone who reads Urdu What you need, Young Rodney, is someone with a copy of Koeppel and Manners. Sorry I can't oblige, but it has to be said that even rarities among the Ugly revenues sell for tens of dollars. The run of the mill stuff brings cents. I'm afraid much the same applies to Indian telegraphs. Quite common, and very hard to shift for much more than the cost of selling them in the first place. (As I understand it, the Telegraphs were applied with one half on the original form and one half on the customer receipt. You usually only see the top half, which was on the customer receipt.) |

Incidentally, the source for information on Telegraphs would be the book by Hiscocks, the name of which I've long forgotten. |

Quite a few of my clients are Indian. So I inquired of one of our older Clients and was told the same thing 1/2 on the cust. receipt and half on the order. As it turns out as a youngster(now 76 yrs.) he collected stamps as well! His are still in India with His Cousin. He said He will ask for them to be sent here to Him and give them to me. |

From the Arthur Maury Album and Catalogue of Postage Stamps and Telegraph Stamps, 1894, Paris. I believe this confirms Tony's post. My French is non-existent to poor so someone could translate please. I tried Google but it didn't altogether make sense. edit: fixed typo, added last pic |

I find this a very useful catalogue but the price quoted seems a bit extreme. I bought a new copy from Vera Trinder a couple of years ago for £17.50. |

Nice! I don't start my used book shopping on Amazon...too many sellers putting ridiculous prices on used items hoping for a lottery ticket. I haven't looked any further, but I should...it would be a useful resource. |
