Hello US Community,
I only collect Newfoundland and this is my first post in the US discussion group.
I somehow ended up with this cover and would like some basic information from experts in this area.
Like the stamp number, the circle cancel, and is the cover valuable or what is the approximate worth?
It appears to be a US stamp, 3 cents and postmarked from Nicholasville KY on July 7 1853 to a person in Ohio. There is no back cancel.
Thanks

The stamp on your cover was released in the fall of 1861, thus the year of your cancel will be 1863.
This is also consistent with the "soldier's letter" notation, during the U.S. civil war.
WIth the stains and tears (and reduced at left?), the value is modest, in the $5-$10 range, and most likely to a Kentucky collector..

Thank you for this. Yeah, its in pretty bad shape. If I am allowed to do so, I would be happy to give it to a community member, and mail it too.
