This overprint was issued twice: in 1900 on horizontally laid paper, and in 1903 on vertically laid paper.
My question: Is there an easy way of telling them apart?
Thanks in advance.

Hold the stamp up to a light and look at it through the backside.

Hi Tony,

I think you'll find these two stamps are both on wove paper from the 1910 issue.

The 10k / 2k overprints in 1900 and 1903 were on the earlier 2k design which had the value in all four corners.

Well, then there would be no easy way to tell them apart unless you got a pen and wrote #1 and #2 on them!

Well, Nigel, you are right and I am wrong.
They are indeed the same stamp from 1910.
Catalogue blindness, as Rod is wont to say.
Thanks again.

On most wove paper, you will typically see a regular array of little "white dots" when held up to a light and viewed through the back. Those white dots correspond to thin spots between the wire mesh when the paper was being produced.
