Hi,

I found this stamp and I don't know if it is a "bluish effect" stamp or damage. Maybe someone can help me.

I think it is a 1876 stamp.

Thank you!

The biggest trouble being lack of quality scans
with queries, meaning you get a guess at best.

Going by the dark blue of the hair fibres at the perforation
holes, I would say it has come off a blue envelope,
but that in itself is a query, because did they have coloured covers then?

Your stamp can be on "bluish paper" which was left over
from 1885 stamps, but this doesn't equate to that for mine.
It would appear bluish from the front also I would suspect,
although I don't own one.
Your example also looks like it has the "thin" fraction stroke.

BTW: If you look closely ( a good scan) will reveal the fraction 1/2
appears more than 30 times on your stamp.

Hi Rod222,

Yes, I understand what you said. I only have a camera with a loop. Yes, this stamp is "thin". I tought it was come from a blue envelope but there are some blue fiber (incruste) on the back. I thought it was very easy to identify it... that's why I ask the question.

Thank you!

i gave the Dutch N.V.P.H. catalog to my interpreter and the stamp came in a variety of papers including light blue..all varieties have the same catalog value..Dutch postal stationary has been printed on a blue gray paper for a long time..do not know for sure if it goes back to 1876..but possible !

Hi Philb,

I'm not sure it is a 1876 stamp.

Thank you!

cdnum, I see what you mean..the Scott #34, N.V.P.H. # 30 first issued in 1876 was printed until 1894..good chance then that the blue paper could be from an envelope !

I'm no expert but it looks like its from the envelope to me, I see the Blue is splotchy on the right side and there is clearly white areas on one side and it progressively gets darker to the left, I'm wondering if it was soaked in warm water and caused the color to leach from the blue paper?

EDIT: I NOW BELIEVE I'M WRONG....see my next post...

Hi,

I add picture with zoom. You can see some blue around 1/2. You can see different fiber color. This stamp is very "thin".

It is an intersting stamp for me :)

Thank you!

I agree Cdnum, there is a certain appeal with stamps
that have that "home made" feel, right up to the hand engraved issues.
I liked these stamps of yours from the first time
I was sorting them in Netherlands kiloware.
I kept every one :)

I was wrong about the Blue, I just ran into a stamp that had the spotty blue just like yours and it was definitively not from soaking...

I'm sorry for the false info.
