Here's what I know. They share the same images as Scott Catalog numbers 75 and 81. They seem to have reprinted these same stamps for a couple of years, but from all my looking I can't find any color matches. Anybody out there like their old New Zealand stuff?

The first one is No. 70 and the second is No. 76. The prices are 9 and 25 Euro. But the color should be different - yellow-brown and orange-red. This info is from Michel, maybe someone else with Gibbons and Scott knows more.

For the 3 pence I have some of the "normal" stamps. I'm going to attach them to this for reference.

However I'm not sure why the color on these two are so different. I assumed they were the same stamp. I think the only way to identify these two is to watermark them. Because they could be Scott Catalog #75, #89, #112, or #116.

If they're proofs is there anyway to identify them as which stamp? Or would they have only made proofs for the first ones (75 and 81)? How would you go about describing them? And the last newbie question for these stamps, would proofs be more or less desirable than the "regular" stamps?

Your 'normal' 3d stamps are a real jungle. You'll need not only to check the watermark, but also the perforations. They could be (in Gibbons) any of SG 251, 261, 261c, 309, 309a, 309b, 321b, 321c, 332 or 341 (which would be very nice because it's priced at £650 mint).

I agree about the imperf black prints. They look like plate proofs. The Campbell Patterson catalogue (http://www.cpnzstamps.co.nz/Catalogue.htm) would be the place to look for these - and for even more detail on your normals.

Looking up The Campbell Patterson catalogue, I can't afford to make an investment like that right now. It's quite expensive, and I don't have THAT many NZ stamps! Maybe some kind member here collects New Zealand and can shed a bit more light on it. Not like I'm in a hurry to get rid of them or anything :)!
