Scott Number 231 is a pretty common stamp. Not as common is the "Broken Hat" varity. How common is this varity on cover? Then, what if that cover was mailed "By Canal" Part Way?

I got this years ago and have always wondered about it. I wonder just what the raity factor is on it?

The broken hat variety is very common both on and off cover. This variety was caused by a damaged transfer roll and can be found in nunerous positions on several plates.
