Sorry to ask so many questions but the books do not give as much info as your experiance. The colors all seem to not match the descriptions in the books ? I am color challanged so it could be just me.
Jayvin, beautiful 283a! I'm amazed daily with the things I learn from this site. I feel like a rookie. Had never heard of the "a" variety in this stamp, so I had to look it up. First stamp I've ever noticed that is a separate variety based on the orientation of the watermark - in this case a vertical rather than a horizontal watermark. Checked my 283; it's horizontal. There are probably more examples of this with other stamps, but it's a new one on me. Thanks for adding to my knowledge.
The 541 is a nice example of paper chromatography in action as the more fugitive reaction product dye with the red shade diffused outward into the white area while the original purple dye remained in place. Presumably the stamp was exposed to a harsh and humid environment at some point. The other two Washington-Franklins don't look like any that I have.
