This might be my favorite U.S. definitive series, and it's great to see them all in one place, varieties and all. Terrific job!

ky40601, the #2257s variety doesn't seem to be in the latest version of Scott. Is this an accepted variety? Scott has the a, b, c, d, and the imperforate pair 2257e, but no 2257s.

lpmiller,

I don't know if the 's' is an accepted variety or not? I found it listed at two web sites as 2257s. I know some dealers will add the 'v' for a variety that's not listed in Scott. I know it's the only 10¢ Canal Boat with Overall Tagging & Shiny Gum. The other Overall Tagging Canal Boat is 2257a with Dull Gum.

I would guess that the "s" refers to shiny gum. Scott does not assign different catalog numbers just on the basis of gum type, although they do list different catalog values. The 2257s is probably 2257a with shiny gum in Scott. The overall tagging canal boat was issued both with dull gum (1993) & with shiny gum (1994).

The "2257s" is probably the same as 2257b. There is no such a thing as "mottled" tagging. What some dealers used to call "mottled" tagging is in reality embedded tagging with a sometimes mottled appearance!
The same thing goes for the 32 cent Ferry Boat, it is printed on paper with embedded tagging but has indeed two kinds of gum!

I have just recently gained some interest in this series. I really like what you've done. Have you considered exporting your pages as pdf files and sharing them here.
