Bought this and paid very little due to the condition but thought it had a chance to be an "E" relief Type Va, and it is not, but even better, this is Position 43R8, and has a nice little curl over the "AG" of POSTAGE, and continues down below into the "G".

It's on Photobucket, and is a scan at 1200dpi, so you can make this very large on your screen if you want to take a better look at the curl.

Art Launier will LOVE this one, but probably has a better copy!!

Enjoy, and Happy New Year! Ray

That's a hard curl to find! A great pickup Ray. My copy? I don't have it. Several over the E and C, several long doubles, on the shoulder, in the hair but not that one.

I have been involved with a new hobby and haven't been around that much. I'm getting a lot of fun in black powder. I have a 1858 New Army revolver and learning a lot about that era.

Everyone should have multiple hobbies.

Again, congrats on the curl.

Ray,

Grats on your find! I tried looking this one up in my 2004 copy of Scott, but to no avail. Is there much of a premium associated with this position? I have 20 or so type V stamps that are all but ignored.

I can't help but wonder what treasure I might be missing ...

Rileysan,

Scott's only list a few of the curls. To see all the varieties you need a copy of the Neikeen book or Vol 1 of Ashbrook. I have a list someplace of all positions/types that have a "fault". But it turned out to be nearly useless because of the number of them.
There is even 1position that has a curl that you can only see using a scanner and blowing it up! Bad thing is that I lost track of it and it's now mixed in with the couple hundred common #24 in my stock pages. ;(
