In an effort to learn more about stamps I'm going to pick some random listings from ebay every now and then that seem to be popular and see if we can strike up a discussion. http://www.ebay.com/itm/390750374859/It's got 39 watchers right now and strong bidding. With that many watchers last minute bidding should be good.

Looks like it has a small thin that the seller doesn't mention. Beautiful stamp. It is on my bucket list but I wont be buying one from ebay |

Yes, that is setting up for some silly last-minute bidding.
I'm not going to say it is not a nice stamp; it is.
But, I think the seller is a little optimistic on the grading. It is described as extra fine/superb, and I don't really think that it is. It is centered noticeably low. In fairness to the seller, the scans allow you to make your own judgment, but an awful lot of collectors are uncomfortable assigning their own grade, so if they are told it is Superb (or almost so), they might believe it.
There are so many of these around that when it comes time to buy one, you could hold out for more-solid perfs, too.
My 2d, only. Again, nice stamp. |

bobby131313.... Stamp does look very fresh and very lightly hinged. Zepps are Zepps.... They always manage to sell for about the same.... If a search was done for LH c15....you could get a ballpark of what this will sell for, granted....there is always a exception to the rule. This item I would place above the average selling price. |

stampcrow....where do you see the thin? The Zepps are common for gum bends and numerous gum skips. Based on the scan...I see teeny bend....(could be scan) I'd say....great stamp. If anyone is looking to save some from a NH example and get a vLH item...this would rate high on my list!

looking at the back of the stamp where the word pan would be, top left area. Looks like some blue showing through. |

I bought a c15 from this seller, stamp was as expected, but communication I found very slow. One nice thing about the US zeps, c13 - c15 is that you should never have to worry about getting one that was produced with a straight edge, because the POD was very particular about production quality and did not make any for those issues. |

I bought C6 from this seller last year. No complaints.
This C15 looks like a beauty to me. I'm having a hard time seeing the thin. Honestly I have a hard time seeing a hinge mark. It's probably my newness back into collecting since everything moved online. How do you guys identify these kinds of issues or faults from a scan like this? In my tongs, under my magnifying glass would be no problem. I guess I just need to learn what to look for in scans. |

I see what you are talking about, although to me it just looks like a hinge mark and not a thin. That is the danger of scans, it is possible to be either. It is clearly somewhat centered to the bottom; to me this is about a $400-$425 stamp at best. Of course if it really is thin then it is a $75-$100 stamp for a collector who only cares about the face. |

That seller seems to be above board. I think if someone was willing to buy it as MVLH it would be worth the shot. |

Quote: It is clearly somewhat centered to the bottom; to me this is about a $400-$425 stamp at best. Judging by recent ebay auctions, this should sell for well more than $500. http://www.ebay.com/itm/U-S-C15-Min...t_2289wt_951Quote: $75-$100 stamp for a collector who only cares about the face Where did you come up with that number?!? I have seen severely damaged copies of this stamp sell for more. I'd gladly pay $200 for a thinned copy this nice ... |

It amazes me both how beautiful these are and how much they fetch! I'll probably never have them in my collection but ten again you do know what might pop up? |

I guess I'm just surprised how often I see these (C13-15) for sale. There were, according to what I read, only 61,000 of the C15 sold. Probably over 200 C15's listed on ebay right now. Not to mention any other up coming private auctions around the world in the next month. |
