Hello everyone. I joined this forum because of some stamps I inherited when my father passed away a year ago. I have a few stamps of my own but what I collect is very limited. Unfortunately I don't have anywhere locally that I can take my father's to find out anything about them. I'm hoping I can learn enough online so I can make a wise decision on what to do with them.

Hi Snipe Hunter,
Welcome to this wonderful and informative forum. Sorry to hear about your father's passing. I lost my father in 2002 and still miss him dearly. I think that's why I decided to get back into stamp collecting again. He started me off with a Harris Liberty album years ago which I gave to a friend before joining the Air Force.

I hope you decide to keep the collection.

Take care, Ted

Thank you all for the welcome. Some of the stamps I inherited are in albums and others are loose. They are US and international.

The ones I have collected myself are duck stamps and stamps that have snipe on them. I started duck hunting in 1976 and I have all of the federal stamps from that time to present. Some are signed by me that I soaked off my license after the season ended. The ones that got thrown away have been replaced with new stamps. In 1979 my state (Florida) started issuing state waterfowl stamps. I have all of those but the last one issued in 2003. I don't see very many of them offered and they are pricey. I imagine that one will always be absent from my collection.

Unfortunately there aren't many stamps with snipe on them. Right now there are only a couple that I know of that I am missing. The only stamp I know of with a snipe on it from the US is the 1996 Oregon non-resident duck stamp and that is one that I am missing.

My 1 and only duck permit stamps has my father's signature on it from his license. I could not ever see parting with it even though I don't collect duck stamps.

I am taking a few pictures of the different boxes, albums, etc. and will post some. One box has some old stamps in envelopes with terms like "revenue" and "banknote". Others are marked "10 1/2 x 11" and "11 x 11". That must mean something. One little envelope marked "11 x 11" has at least 100 little red 2 cent stamps with George Washington on them. Those must be very common.

Stamperdude, I wouldn't get rid of my father's duck stamps. I also did some snipe hunting growing up but I don't think it was the same as what you were doing. If you go to www.thesnipehunter.com you can see the snipe hunting I was doing as recently as a week ago.

The albums are not up to date. The first two have publish dates of 1963 and 1971

This book has plate blocks, sheets, US Christmas seals, Florida hunting stamps, misc foreign stamps and covers

These books show the ranges of US stamps they cover

The reference books I got from my father

I have owned these two books for years. They are state duck stamps and state fishing stamps from 1989

More conservation stamps. I have a set of these from 1987 through 1991

This is a wildlife series of first day covers from Canada. I have two sets of these

Some loose stamps in envelopes

A box of loose US stamps

Loose stamps from the rest of the world

US stamps that are still attached

Very nice collection. Revenue would be for Internal revenue stamps or state revenue stamps. Banknotes would be for stamps produced by the American Banknote Company (more than likely. 10 x 10, 10 x 11 1/2 etc. would be for stamps sorted by perforation size (the number of points around the edges of the stamp) especially the Washington and Franklins of the late 19th century and early 20th century. I hope this helps.

My snipe hunting involved a flashlight, stick, and bag while camping.
