Finally got around to processing some individual items I picked up. The 2nd and 3rd issue stamps are Ex-Morrissey, from his exhibits, purchased from Richard Friedberg.

First, some position pieces.

And some varieties.

This is an example of the short transfer on R1b. It completes my collection of examples, as I now have it on the R1a, R1b, and R1c.

A Scott-unlisted variant of the T13a from the plate position directly above the full T13a. The T13a shows features at top and bottom, whereas this stamp shows features only at the bottom and the position below the T13a shows features only at the top.

An example of the the full T13a. Scott lists this on the regular paper and in ultramarine shade, but not on silk paper, which this is.

An unlisted complete double transfer affecting lettering in all four scrolls. Exterior is virtually identical to the stamp shown below it, which I already had, but the portrait on this particular stamp is completely unaffected.

And finishing up with some cancels.

A very ornate druggist cancel. I've had several examples of this one in the past, but this is the sharpest strike I've seen to date.

An example of a custom house cancel on multiple that clearly shows the punch as part of the canceling device, perfectly centered on all 3 strikes. You don't see this cancel on multiples very often.

Manuscript cancel of the paddle steamer S.S. Princess Alice. Signer used the German convention of using a 'long s' (which looks like a script 'f') for any word ending in double s. The ship was eventually sunk in 1878 with a loss of 650 people on board.

You especially don't see multiples of the NY custom house cancel with the inked portion of the cancel still clearly visible. It was a very busy custom house, and the ink would only last a short time and everyone was too busy to keep inking it, hence the cut cancel. A very beautiful building, today used as a National Museum of the American Indian, which is a part of the Smithsonian.
The two all over proprietaries are the same position, an early and late state.
